It's Crusade weekend in Kentuckiana!
According to the official Crusade website http://CrusadeForChildren.org the Mission of the Crusade:
The WHAS Crusade for Children exists to change the lives of children with special needs in Kentucky and Indiana.
The Mission tells you what it strives to do, and has for 57 consecutive years, but it doesn't tell you what it is. I suppose you have to have been born here, or have lived here for a number of years to truly know what it means.
On the surface, it is firefighter road blocks, trucks, lights and sirens, donation cans on checkout counters, it's raffles and scouts and youth groups canvassing neighborhoods with fire boots in hands knocking on doors... it's the optimism that "we'll do better next year!", all this and so much more.
Beneath the physical, it is a diverse community of good people, from two states, who come together to support a cause which has resulted in countless stories of changed lives for those who have felt the comfort of the Crusade when their children have needed help.
The Crusade is countless lessons from our parents who taught us early that there are some things in life that are very important and cannot be measured in dollars and cents.
