Tempus fugit a Latin expression meaning "time flees" more commonly translated "time flies" reportedly first recorded in a poem penned in 29 BC.
Obviously not a new concept, in the world, or to me, but it aways comes front of mind at various life events. My wife and I attended the wedding of one of four sons of family friends last night. The groom, a fine young man that I watched grow from a loud Cub Scout, to learn the skills of leadership as Boy Scout all the way to Eagle Scout and on through University, to stand at the Altar with the one he plans to share the rest of his life with.
No surprises here, after all, after 20 years working as an adult in the Boy Scout program, many who were boys are now men... married and many with children of their own. One of these is the older brother of "the groom", who I'm sure will be starting his own son down Scouting's trail in three years or so, I guess that will complete some strange circle in life.
You can imagine, in a family where the Dad is an Eagle Scout, who has four sons who are Eagle Scouts most likely has a few friends who have sons who are Eagle Scouts and just might... conceivably end up sitting at the same table at the reception!
Sitting with all these couples that we've know for many years and some of their sons, you can imagine there maybe a few stories being told and common memories being shared.
A great time was had by all... celebrating new beginnings, remembering promises from the past and reliving the stories, people and memories from our lives.
